Hymn From A Village

James is a British band of the 80s, 90s and 00s. Disbanded in 2002... and reformed in 2007. They wrote a song called "Hymn From a Village". I liked the name, and so the blog is named the same.

Ceiling Crashers

I have a problem with my kitchen ceiling. The problem is that there is a freaking giant hole in the ceiling. Last night I arrived home to the sound of dripping water. After a brief discussion with the folks upstairs I found out that they were having plumbnig problems that lead to water dripping onto the bathroom floor. The water slid across the floor to the wall between the bathroom and the kitchen and then down the wall an onto my ceiling of my kitchen. The water must have pooled there and started to drip down through a hole. I went to bed and I was not optimistic that the ceiling would hold throughout the night. I was unfortunately prescient in my thoughts and I awoke to crashing as the plaster came tumbling down onto the floor. The entire kitchen was a mess. The plaster went everywhere and splattered across the floor and onto the counter. I cleaned up some of the larger chunks and went back to sleep. This left me with the task of cleaning up the place before going to work. Hopefully in the next few days the landlord can get someone in to patch up the mess. I would dearly like to get back to a normal kitchen life.

In other news there is not much to report. Work is a bit of a drag. I'm easily distracted and bored with my work and yet simultaneously intrigued by how ridiculous the work is. Sigh. I must try to maintain my motivation and professionalism. I think I really need a change of scenary. I also need to find something to do with my degree. I'm pretty much convinced that I do not want to do engineering for the rest of my life. I'm a pretty poor engineer. I would prefer to do something with writing I've decided. I wouldn't mind doing something that involves some simple calculations I could follow, and some writing. That I could deal with. No more ridiculous math.

I'm currently in love with the catchy pop tunes of Death Cab for Cutie. Very catchy and listenable pop. They're not re-writing the rock ballad by any stretch of the imagination, but they've got catchy lyrics to go with the tunes. These kids were apparently the indie band sensations a few years ago. I missed those updates.... anway I'm glad they are here now and signed to a major label.

On another note I'm not really sure what became of my 20s. I actually can't remember a lot of the days between about 23 and 28. Not good. I now really wish that I'd gotten my self together and thought about what I really wanted to do. I mean I burned many week-ends and week-nights at work. Ugh. I feel socially inept these days.

Ta.
